Chief Grovo was in and updated the Board on a few things that are going on.

  • Review of Correspondence
  • Letter from Tammy Atwood, Regional Chief Development Officer, American Red Cross – Re:  5-Year initiative to reduce deaths, injuries & property loss from fires by 25%

  • Review of Projects and Issues
Selectman Burns spoke about attending the Twelve Town Group Meeting last Monday night along with Selectman Santolucito.  He explained in detail their discussion with the CEO of GWI who presented the “road map” for the internet super highway that is supposed to be 100 times faster than Broadband.  He explained what the advantages are and how it could be a draw for more businesses.  Selectman Burns said he doubts that a lot of the rural towns will ever see it but at the same time Senator King’s representative in the area who attends these meetings as well told them that companies like Time Warner are lobbying in Augusta to make it against the law for towns and municipalities to put in their own system.  There is a lot of money behind it to try to make it a law.  So there will be an effort from the towns to lobby their representatives in Augusta to make sure that a law like that does not get passed.  Even though many towns have not taken advantage of it those towns that want to should have the opportunity to do it.

Selectman Burns reported that he has a meeting scheduled for tomorrow with Bill Brockman of SAD 6 to discuss some issues and talk about the upcoming SAD 6 budget meetings.

Selectman Booker reported that she was in most days except for yesterday.  She said she has looked over the health insurance information that came in and also re-read the road ordinance changes that are being proposed.

Selectman Santolucito expanded briefly on the Twelve Town Group discussion about the high speed internet.  He said even though smaller towns around here may not want to do it, it is still a leverage point to be used with Time Warner.

Selectman Harmon finished the Sales Analysis report that is in the mail to the Maine Revenue Service.  She thanked LeeAnn Pratt, our Tax Collector, for helping her with that.

Selectman Harmon mentioned that we received this year from the Salvation Army some of the coats that they collect through the “Coats For Kids Program”.  She said we have quite a few coats ranging from toddler to adult sizes.  They are here at Town Hall; they are free and anyone is welcome to come in and choose what they need.

Selectman Emery was in and met with the Public Works Director last Friday.  He mentioned that Jaret Cox is back and has recovered from his accident.  We got him back but we lost our Public Works Mechanic for up to 8 weeks as a result of an accident that happened over the weekend.  The Board wishes him a fast recovery.

Selectman Emery went to the Planning Board Meeting Monday night.  He said he wound up speaking during the Dollar General part of the meeting.  He and Tom Kennie then presented the road ordinance changes and said they explained some things and there were some good questions from the Planning Board that they went back and forth on.  He thought everyone went away from the meeting knowing what the changes are and why they are being made.
